Africa and Energy Security

Global Issues, Local Responses

Ruchita Beri and Uttam Kumar Sinha

Africa has emerged as an important source of oil and gas in the global energy landscape, attracting growing interest from American, European and Asian oil companies. As countries seek to secure energy resources beyond the volatile West Asian region, Africa has become increasingly significant in discussions on the geopolitics of energy security.

This book goes beyond state-centred approaches to energy security by connecting local perspectives on energy resources with the global understanding of energy as a security concern. Bringing together contributions from an international team of experts and specialists in African affairs, it examines Africa's role in the global search for oil, the wider consequences of energy production across the continent and India's multifaceted engagement with Africa.

Enriched by both Indian and African perspectives, the volume includes detailed country case studies and offers an analytical assessment of the relationship between energy resources, security and international engagement.
