About the Book

Compensation and benefits (C&B) is a sub-discipline of human resource management, which focuses on employee compensation issues. C&B are tangible in nature, and include recognition, variable pay, monitory benefits, etc. Variable pay is a non-fixed monetary (cash)  reward that is contingent on discretion, performance, or results achieved. There are different types of variable pay plans, such as bonus schemes, sales incentives (commission), overtime pay, etc.

The present volume is a study conducted to know how variable compensation practices exist in public, private and other sectors within and outside India. It depicts the present system of incentives through PRP, define performance indicators for CPSEs, identify critical parameters for performance evaluation of public sector enterprises, suggest the methodology for performance evaluation of CPSEs, suggest incentives for CPSE officers and employees linked to their performance with the objective of increasing CPSE productivity and profitability and also,turn-around of loss making CPSEs, suggest incentives to CPSEs falling under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 and identify the best practices on the above in the private sector in India and the State Owned Enterprises in foreign countries.

R.K. Mishra, Senior Professor and Director, Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad is a graduate of International Management Programme, SDA Bocconi, Milan, Italy. His areas of interest include: corporate governance, international management, international finance, public-private partnership, restructuring and environmental administration.

 

K.S.N. Raju is a post-graduate in Power Systems Engineering from Andhra University College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam. His areas of specialisation include mathematical modelling of electrical machines, development of super conducting machines, power electronic & renewable energy systems.

 

Punam Singh is Assistant Professor, School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad. Her interest areas include: human resource management, organisational behaviour, CSR performance and compensation management.

 

Geeta Potaraju is currently heading the Centre for Governance and Public Policy at IPE, Hyderabad. Her areas of specialisation include: governance and public policy, participatory governance and civic engagement, performance management in government, urban reforms and capacity building, health system strengthening, administrative & institutional reforms, etc.

 

J. Kiranmai is currently Assistant Professor in the areas of accounting and finance at IPE, Hyderabad. She holds MPhil in management and MCom with specialisation in banking. 

 

Shulagna Sarkar, Assistant Professor, and Coordinator PGDM–HRM course at IPE with both industry and academic experience is a law graduate with a PhD in HRM. She has worked extensively in the areas of corporate social responsibility, baseline surveys, impact assessment and green HRM in India.
