Potential of India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Partnership
Trinity of the South: Potential of India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Partnership
About the Book
The partnership between India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) represents an important development in South-South cooperation. These three countries are leading economies in their respective continents, with complementary strengths, capabilities and shared political, economic and developmental experiences.
The volume examines how these complementarities can be used to strengthen economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of the three countries and the wider developing world. It explores opportunities in industry, services, trade and technology, highlighting the potential for creating a substantial economic partnership. It also considers the strategic importance of IBSA in multilateral negotiations and in shaping the countries' roles in global governance.
The partnership also has the potential to generate wider benefits for the regional groupings associated with each country: SAARC in Asia, MERCOSUR in Latin America and SACU in Africa. In this study, the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) explores the potential for cooperation in trade in goods and services, investment, technology and other areas of economic engagement.
The study identifies considerable opportunities arising from the countries' complementary strengths and makes recommendations for realising the potential of the IBSA economic partnership.
